Minnesota BPOU 50A Republicans Logo - How Was It Created and What Does It Mean?
A Long Road To Create An Identity
Four score and seven years ago (or what felt like it) the Full Committee set out to create a logo that would embody the spirit of our active and outspoken group as well as a pin design for our supporting member package. During a meeting with Juleigh Perona (BPOU Deputy Chair), John Ragan Anderson (BPOU Chairman) and Barb Davis White (US Congress Candidate) a discussion was held with a lot of different input.
Towards the end of the meeting there was a lot of input but not a lot of progress. However, within a few minutes of each other, Juleigh came up with a concept of both creating a coat of arms for the BPOU logo and the pin design. Met with excitement with the concept, John went home to research symbols that would represent what we stand for as 50A Republicans. That night John sent over a concept to Juleigh and the specifics were discussed and modified. A few weeks later a sketch was developed by Juleigh and our coat of arms was well on its way to be created.
During this time significant pressure from work which included many trips to the east coast prevented Juleigh from being able to complete the vision for the coat of arms. We then turned to Emily Grimes who had designed Tim Utz's website to finish off the coat of arms. With Emily's amazing artistic skill and vision she was able to turn the sketch into the completed work we have today. We invite you not just to look at the coat of arms but to understand what it means.
What Does The Coat of Arms Mean?
An armorial achievement, otherwised known as a "coat of arms" was chosen to represent the battle that lies ahead that will never end. We will always have forces in our country that would like to take away our freedoms, attack the preservation of life and send us down a road to financial ruin. We believe that our coat of arms represents our principles as Republicans in House District 50A.
- The Supporters
The supporters in our coat of arms represent our reverence for our country and our party. The bald eagle which is a universal symbol of freedom to the world guides us to uphold our freedom from any forces outside or inside our country that wants to destroy what America has always stood for. The elephant represents the Grand Old Party which has always fought for conservative values in our country.
- The Crest
The Crest is a special symbol in our coat of arms which represents the rattlesnake from the Gadsden flag protecting the torch of the Statue of Liberty. The 50A Republican should always act like the rattlesnake which as Ben Franklin once said that "...she may therefore be esteemed an emblem of vigilance. - She never begins and attack, nor, when once engaged, ever surrenders: She is therefore an emblem of magnanimity and true courage."
We hold ourselves as the protector of personal and economic liberty in our country. We must never give up the fight once our opposition shows they are determine to remove our freedoms piece by piece. If we do not adhere to our responsibility as Republicans we will forever slide towards a society ruled by our opponents who seek to oppress us all.
- The Shield & Charges
The Shield consists of three charges:
The crossed American Longrifles (otherwise known as the Pennslyvania or Kentucky Longrifle) represents the battle our forefathers had to fight in order to gain our independence from an oppressive regime. These rifles were utilized in the United States during our expansion west as our ancestors built our country into the great nation we have today. We continue to utilize arms to protect our homes and our families from those who seek to harm us, whether that be from individuals or our own government. As Thomas Jefferson said "The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government".
The liberty bell is a symbol of our party's history. We are the party of Lincoln, which was created by anti-slavery expansion activists in 1854. Lincoln later issued the Emancipation Proclamation which declared the freedom of all slaves in any state of the Confederate States of America. Two years later the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution would officially abolish slavery and involuntary servitude. The liberty bell was adopted by the American Anti-Slavery Society a symbol of the abolitionist movement as well as being an icon for liberty and justice.
The stars and stripes represent our reverence to our flag and our country. Especially towards those who gave up their lives defending all of our freedoms as well as those who risk their lives today defending our country.
- The Motto
"Vita, Libertas & Consectatio Felictatis", Latin for the most basic and simple guidelines we use in determining what we must protect to keep our Republic strong. We must always be sure we are protecting; Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
